In the midst of a global pandemic, taking care of yourself should be your number one priority. Not just your physical health, but your mental health as well. Stress about anything from the state of the world to the balance in your bank account can really take its toll.
This does not constitute advice and advice should be sought in all instances before acting on it.
Here are a few ways you can stay positive during this difficult time and look after your mental wellbeing.
Focus on the positives
First and foremost, identify the positive elements in your life right now. If it helps, write a list. No matter what your worries are, there will surely be sources of joy. Set aside time to forget your worries and let yourself indulge in what makes you happy — whether that’s your family, your partner, or your pet.
Remember this won’t last forever
It might be hard to remember while we’re in the middle of the pandemic, but it won’t last forever. Try to focus on your life goals after the strict and constantly changes measures are lifted – social isolation and distancing will one day be a distant memory.
Take a breath
Remember that just because you might have more time to yourself, you won’t necessarily be relaxing or resting. Take the time to breathe properly — there are apps available to teach you techniques that help with relaxation. Take it to the next level with meditation – yoga or other exercise – which helps with focusing your mind so that you can direct your thoughts and concentrate on cheerful things instead of what’s causing you stress.
Understand your limits
If you’ve done all you can to reduce your stress, understand that some things are beyond your control. Concentrate on things you can change, things you can actually do instead of things you can’t. You’ll reduce your frustration by learning to let things go and help maintain a more positive existence.
Reduce worries wherever possible
Financial worries are a top concern for many people. Ensure you have a solid financial plan with protection policies, a solid investment portfolio, and one that helps you meet your goals no matter the economic climate – and one that protects you if you can’t work for a period of time.
We can help
To help ease some of the stress surrounding your finances, consider working with a financial adviser. No matter your circumstances, they’ll be happy to provide guidance so you have one less thing to worry about.
