Aimlessly wandering through the year hoping to reach exciting milestones for your business isn’t a good way to hit targets. It’s now time to start preparing your plans for 2020. Spend time thinking about what you want, and set formal goals. That way you can cross them off the list once you’ve accomplished them.
This does not constitute advice and advice should be sought in all instances before acting on it.
If you do not know where you are going in 2020, how will you know when you arrive?
Be SMART about the goals you’re setting
Hitting goals you set for yourself takes hard work and determination. Simply having a goal or dream isn’t enough – you need an actionable plan to make it happen. Goals need to be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and timely).
By setting SMART goals, you’re able to evaluate the goals you wish to set and be certain that they are realistic for you and your business. Write your goals into your business plan to help keep track of where you are throughout the year.
SMART goals:
Initial goal: I want to grow my practice
- Specific – be clear about what you want to achieve – what does success look like?
- Measurable – make sure your goal can be measured so you can recognise if and when you achieve it
- Achievable – set goals that you have time, money and resources to complete
- Relevant – your goal should be relevant to the direction you want to take your business forward into, e.g. increasing profit, training more staff, increasing your brand awareness
- Timely – set a realistic deadline for completing the goal.
SMART goal: I will gain 10 new patients for my practice within a six month period filling my current available diary places. This will allow me to grow my business and increase my revenue.
Don’t leave it too late to create a workable plan
We are already into Q4 of the calendar year, and the next couple of months will disappear in a flash. You need to be planning for 2020 now, or the risk is that before you know it, it will be Christmas, you’ll be riding the festive waves and will enter the New Year with no firm plans to work on.
Hit the ground running in 2020
Book some time into your schedule to sit down and write your goals and work out how to achieve them.
