Moving house can be a stressful process. From house hunting and mortgage applications to the actual task of moving there are so many things to think about. If you’re hoping to move this spring, here’s a few tips to help everything go smoothly.

1. Ready your finances

You’ll need to get your financial house in order before you can secure your dream home. Doing a full financial evaluation will help you understand your price point and exactly how much you can afford to spend from month to month. Your lender will also review your finances thoroughly, so it’s best to get everything sorted ahead of time.

2. All about the value

If you can, consider investing money up front to improve your current property so you can get top dollar when it’s time to sell. Then get professionals to evaluate your property so you can get an expectation for what your home is worth before you list it on the market.

3. House hunting

Start by doing research on your own to find out what you like and where you’d like to live and then get in touch with professionals to help you on your journey. Meeting with a mortgage advisor or a broker is a great start – they can answer all your questions and guide you through the process.

4. Get moving

You’ll need to decide whether or not you’re going to take care of the removal process on your own or if you’ll hire help. Of course, the decision will depend on the size of property you’re moving from and exactly how much you’ll be taking with you. For many, hiring professional movers is a no-brainer. But others might be able to rally the troops and get friends or family to chip in so they opt for the self-removal option. Even if you do hire out the job, they might require certain items packed already or disassembled, so check ahead of time.

5. Be prepared

You can never predict what the weather will be so prepare for all eventualities. Have suncream ready for a sunny day and raincoats on deck in case it starts to rain. If you’re doing your own move, be sure to wear proper attire, including footwear, and have water on standby. You should also bring floor covering so you’re not trekking dirt inside your new home.
